PM-18 Update

So for the 60 plus Season 20 races our team is running the NAPA Auto Parts livery.

After 8 races our team is now in 5th place in the leagues team competition.

Livery Change

 Last post I forgot to include a picture of the Indy Pro PM-18 that the League uses for the road racing championship.  So here it is:

This is the shiny version of my Camaro Yellow and Root Beer Brown that I used in 1976 on my '72 pickup truck and my 1956 VW Baja Bug.  I have raced this "Livery" on iRacing since I first learned how to paint my own cars.  

If you find Racespot on youtube you can see some of our road races.  They broadcast 3 races per 12 race season Live.  Of course replays are available now.  After watching our last two broadcast races, I decided that the colors I use do not show well on tv.  So I am going to change my "Livery".  Drum Roll Please . . . . . .

What do you think?

I don't like the white wheels and that will change to either Black or Grey.

Other than that both the ARCA Chevy and the Indy Pro PM-18 will carry the same colors in a muted matte finish.  

We are racing the ARCA car at Phoenix on Tuesday and the Indy PM-18 at the Phillips Island Circuit on Wednesday and I will have a positive story to tell from one or the other . . . I hope!! 

Today was the first road race of the new iRacing season for the 60+ Racing Adventures League.  For those who are new here, this league is a group of drivers over the age of 60.  The league races both road and oval tracks each week for 12 weeks which makes a season.  Yesterday we raced the ARCA Chevrolet SS at Daytona.

Today we drove the Indy Pro2000 PM-18 at Road Atlanta.  

 

That pretty much gets us started.  

I have been driving in iRacing since the end of March 2020.  A result of the Covid lock down and wanting something to do after exhausting the current tv crap.  I watched a few of the you tube and twitch broadcast of iRacing and thought that looked like a cool thing to do.  So off to the races we went.  After a few weeks of getting my racing shoes worn in, I began to see these leagues and investigated how they worked.  First I tried one that concentrated on off road trucks and tracks.  

From the other post on this old blog you can tell that off road was what I had done in the real world past.  My interest had always been racing.  From Jalopies at Ascot to NASCAR at Riverside I had attended races since I was a boy going with my Uncle Harold.  When I got my drivers license in 1960 I traveled all of Southern California to races.  I really loved the sports cars of the 60's.  Porsche 904's, Cobras, CanAm cars and of course the Chaparral.

I did notice that many of the leagues were full of young aggressive drivers and at 75 that was just not my style.  So I found the 60plus Racing Adventures league.  A great bunch of helpful guys that are really fun to practice with and race against.  I started with them when they were already into their 15th season.  So this new season (number 16) will be my first full season with them.

The King

Great to see the King at this years SEMA show.  Watching Petty race against Dan Gurney on the road course at Riverside in the 60's not only makes me old, but makes me an old NASCAR fan.  Those were the years of Foyt, Andretti, Parnelli, Phil Hill, and all those drivers who had success racing in different venues.  As a fan that makes me very Lucky.  

SEMA - - it's not just about cars or trucks . . . . .

Every conceivable part of a car and sometimes parts you have never thought about are on display.  Venders hawking their wares in booths that often resemble circus sideshows.  Celebrities and shapely models are on display to draw you into the jaws of the selling sharks.

That is what makes this such a great event.  Other than the shear size of the halls, it is fun from the minute you walk onto the red carpet.
